Real Estate License: Best Approach

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

The best approach to obtain a real estate license is to allow an unlicensed broker to collect a fee only when the real estate is incidental to the transaction. The brokers had contended that the sale of the real property was only incidental in the sale of the landfill business, and that the permits, equipment and other personal property required to run the business were critical. The court disagreed. The sale involved 180 acres of real estate, which formed the landfill itself. In such a case, the court said, the land could not possibly be incidental" to the business as the brokers argued.

Real Estate Investing in Edmonton, Alberta

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Some years ago, after getting advice from others with more experience than myself I decided to try some real estate investing in Edmonton, Alberta. I bought two townhouse condos. It didn't work out very well due to the fact I had to hire property managers who didn't seem to care much. One I sold for $50,000 is now listed for $220,000 12 years later. Perfect hindsight is handy but didn't help much in this case.

Timeshare History

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Timeshares have been around for quite some time. Their origins lie in 1960s Europe, where resorts promised to actually sell parts or the resorts for a given time period. This makes the ownership or at least the right to use certain kinds of expensive assets quite affordable. A  timeshare  can allow people to be able to actually afford the use of such assets like a vacation house or a private jet, things that would normally simply be too expensive to own in their entirety. In most cases, timeshares are quite affordable compared to the alternatives which mean either purchase or rental of an asset (over the long term).
